Exodontia Mini-Residency

Introduction: The Surgeons at Natix Oral Surgery are pleased to offer a hands-on mini-residency in complex dental extractions. This program is self-directed by the candidate

Candidates:
• General dentists or dental specialists seeking to improve their surgical skills in complex dental extractions, such as wisdom teeth, root canal treated teeth, and difficult extractions of erupted teeth.
• Candidates must hold a valid licence issued by the Ordre of Dentists of Quebec.
• Candidates must have some basic experience in dentoalveolar surgery as the goal of this Mini-Residency is to reduce procedure times, improve patient outcomes, and increase case difficulty.

Objectives:
• Refine case selection suitable for local anesthesia
• Select proper local anesthesia compounds and injection techniques
• Select and execute the proper surgical technique
• Post-operative analgesia
• Management of complications

Details:
• Dentist candidates schedule a 4 hour block 830AM-1230PM, during which 2 cases of 4 wisdom teeth, or the equivalent, will be done.
• Dentist candidates submit their patient cases for approval by Natix Oral Surgery 4 weeks prior to their scheduled course.
• Dentist candidates and their assistant present 30 minutes prior to the procedure for room set up, case review, and a concise presentation on important topics.
• There will be a short debrief on all cases of the day where candidates can learn from their own as well as other candidates’ cases.
• Dentist candidates must be accompanied by their own dental assistant.
• All procedure fees to patients are charged by the Dentist Candidate, at their discretion.
• Surgical accessories and equipment are provided by Natix Oral Surgery. Candidates are welcome to use certain instruments of their choice; these require pre-operative sterilization at Natix Oral Surgery one day prior to the scheduled session.
• The minimum number of sessions is 1. During the debrief, it will be suggested if an additional session is of benefit.
