Botox & Fillers
Botox:
Botox is a bacteria-derived toxin that specifically targets nerve endings. This purified neurotoxin is injected in extremely small doses into selected facial muscles to achieve paralysis or paresis (weakness), and in turn this eliminates or reduces dynamic facial wrinkles. Dynamic facial wrinkles are deep folds on the face caused by the repetitive contraction of specific muscles of facial expression. Although its most common facial application is to target the muscles around the eyes, it can also be used to lift the lateral eyebrows as well as decrease bands in the neck. The peak effect of Botox begins at 3 weeks following its injection, and lasts about 4 months. Repeat injections are at the patient's discretion.
The patient's initial Cosmetic Botox Session may be under-dosed, in order for the doctor to understand and meet the patient's expectations at a second session, 3-4 weeks later. This approach may help prevent unexpected or unsatisfactory results.
Botox is used for a variety of medical conditions including spasms of the face and neck, temporomandibular disorders, migraine headaches, overactive bladder, lazy eye, excessive sweating and many more. It has been extensively studied and is safe when performed by a trained and experienced medical professional.
Fillers:
The goal of a filler is to “fill in” the static wrinkles (wrinkles that do not disappear when the face is at rest). There are a variety of different products that can be used including Juvederm, Restylane and even your own fat (fat grafting).
These products are injected just below the skin and can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles around the nose and mouth, between the eyebrows as well as increase the volume to the cheek and lips to achieve a more youthful appearance. The effects are immediate and can last from 6-9 months.
