PRF Joint Therapy
Dr. Albilia and his collaborators have pioneered the clinical application of liquid Platelet Rich Fibrin (i-PRF) in patients with painful temporomandibular joint disease. Although this treatment remains experimental, preliminary results show promise in controlling inflammation and pain in many patients, using a non invasive technique.
Platelet Rich Fibrin, or PRF, is a unique platelet concentrate characterized by:
1. a prolonged release of large amounts of growth factors during the first week after its application.
2. the presence of cells (platelets, leukocytes and precursor cells) that are critical to tissue repair and regeneration.
PRF is obtained by centrifugation of the patient's own blood. Within minutes, a liquid or solid PRF matrix can be generated and used right away to promote tissue regeneration and healing.
